Muskegon, MI - April 6 , 2004 << Return to Press Release Page For more information, call: Bob Chapla, Vice President, Development Community Foundation for Muskegon County Medical Society Transfers Endowment Fund to Community Foundation The Muskegon County Medical Society has transferred its $300,000 endowment fund to the Community Foundation for Muskegon County to continue a long-standing tradition of providing grants for health and science education projects. Since 1965 the Muskegon County Medical Society has contributed through its foundation to a broad array of health-related community projects. That mission will continue with the transfer, said Clay Tellman, MD, a retired Muskegon physician who was president of the Muskegon Medical Foundation when it was created. Over the years grants have been provided for a variety of purposes; to make polio vaccinations available to county residents, present health fairs, provide scholarships for medical students and purchase books for the Muskegon Community College library. A 13-member advisory committee, the majority of which are members of the Muskegon County Medical Society, will consider grant requests. “The Muskegon County Medical Society has a rich, long-standing tradition of providing health education for the residents of Muskegon County,” said CFMC President Chris A. McGuigan. “With the transfer of this fund they are creating the Muskegon County Medical Society Endowment Fund ensuring that this type of community involvement will continue for generations to come. We are proud and honored to be their partner.” The Community Foundation for Muskegon County was created in 1961 to improve the quality of life for Muskegon County residents.
