Creating a fund here at the Community Foundation for Muskegon County involves a few
simple steps and can prove to be a very rewarding and meaningful decision for those
who want to make a difference here in Muskegon.
The process we follow goes like this:
-
We start by meeting with you to talk about how easy it is to create a new fund
and what you may choose to do with a fund. We will ask you to tell us about
your vision for the fund ... what you would like the fund to do ... what you
would like to support with your fund ... what organizations, or causes, or
areas of need are most important to you. At this meeting we will also talk
with you about the name you want for the fund, what resources or assets you
plan to use to start the fund, and the timing for starting the fund.
After we have met with you we will draft what is called a fund agreement and
make this agreement available for you to review in draft form. The type of
fund agreement will vary for each situation and will be customized to state
your exact intent for the fund. This straight forward, in plain English
agreement, will identify what you have told us you want the fund to support.
The agreement will also tell you what you can expect from us once the fund
is in place.
Once we agree on the language in the agreement ... have it exactly like you
want it ... we will then ask you to sign the agreement and our President will
sign for the Foundation. The signed agreement will assure that your wishes
for the use of the fund are established and adhered to --- For Good.
For Ever®.
Your fund agreement is presented to our Board of Trustees and then it is added
to the long list of funds that have been created to serve as the vehicle for
realizing the dreams and visions for doing good here in the Muskegon region in
perpetuity.
-
Grants made from your fund typically will begin one calendar year (or one full
granting cycle if scholarship is your choice) from the date the fund is signed
and formally established.
