Muskegon Area Children's Agenda
The Muskegon Area Children’s Agenda (MACA) Committee meets bi-monthly and provides an important discussion forum for children and family issues in Muskegon County. The Foundation hosts and facilitates the meetings. Discussions during 2009 centered predominately on education related topics and the impact of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds on local human services, education and early childhood education programs.
Key discussion topics during 2009 included:
- Early Childhood Development
- Family Resource Centers
- Community Coordinating Council
- Lights On Afterschool
- High School Drop Out Prevention
- WIRED
- Muskegon Opportunity
During the 2009 year, MACA saw the number of Family Resource Centers increase from 13 to 16; these services are now available county-wide in every school district in Muskegon County, except North Muskegon.
Muskegon Opportunity made great progress in raising funds to hire staff to coordinate a county-wide program to advance educational attainment at both the high school and college level.
The Foundation also hosted the Regional Education Forum with Katie Haycock as the featured speaker in early 2009. Ms. Haycock is President of the Education Trust, Washington D.C.
