Renewable & Alternative Energy

Louis E. Jr., and Ann J. Eklund, are funding a major push for renewable and alternative energy. They are using their Energy Innovation Fund to support the development of demonstration projects and innovations related to alternative energy uses; specifically wind, solar, lighting innovations and other emerging technologies. Not one to mince words, Lou stated, "this country needs to get smart around energy use."
Their first project was the nation's first installation of Cascade Engineering's Swift Wind Turbine on the rooftop of the Frauenthal Center for Performing Arts. The Eklunds also initiated the purchase of new LED lighting for the Frauenthal Marquee, funded the weatherization of all the glass doors in the Theater, replaced light bulbs, installed programmable thermostats and weather sealed the windows in the Foundation offices. These energy saving improvements have resulted in a budget reduction of $14,000 annually.
