Highlights of 2010

The first words that come to mind to summarize 2010 are "Thank You! Thank You" for a year of calm without boredom, a year of composed endeavor and great work accomplished. At the Foundation, as in the community as a whole, 2010 was a time to move forward, using well the knowledge we gained at the School of Market Dive Economics.
All year, we celebrated the 80th Anniversary of the Frauenthal’s existence, including a September birthday party with cake, champagne and a viewing of the first movie shown on its screen in 1930. The Foundation celebrated the Frauenthal’s birthday at our Annual Gathering, by granting $8,000 to each of the arts organizations who have funds with us.
In 2010 we re-built our website to make it more dynamic, attractive and useful. Online giving shot up in 2010! We turned our attention to social networking: our Facebook page has 700 Friends. Ok, 700-- but they are wildly enthusiastic Friends who make sure they tell me how great our page is! We also collected almost all our fundholders’ e-mail addresses and began sending our fund statements and gift receipts out via e-mail. And after a year of research and negotiation, we implemented our new online grantmaking software which will be easier to use, will allow all of the affiliates to receive online grant applications also, and reduces our annual hosting fees by more than two-thirds (from $9,400 to $2,900).
2010 was the first full year of our contract with our new financial advisors, Consulting Group. Let me summarize the reviews so far and just say we are very happy with their responsiveness, service, fees and performance. Our Investment Committee and Finance Committee commenced the new schedule of meetings designed to get our work done more efficiently. By the end of 2010, our total assets were just a few dollars below their all time high in 2007: not the same as declaring that all our losses have been recovered, but getting much closer!
Other stand out events or accomplishments in 2010 were: the successful “Match Day” in Mason County, the acquisition and dedication of the Buster Keaton sculpture outside the FCPA on Western Ave., completion and publication of the Foundation’s written history, celebration of the renovation of the Root Memorial Fountain and Park, Pat Horsfall’s retirement and the welcoming of Janelle Mair, preparation of all materials required to receive re-certification of our compliance with National Standards, and establishment of the Foundation’s formal Program Related Investment Committee and Program.
2010 was a solid entry to our next 50 years!
